What is a repost on TikTok?

Quick answerChecked October 2026

A repost on TikTok shares someone else's video with your followers and community without copying it. The video appears in their For You feed labelled as a repost, with your name and profile photo, and it's saved to the Reposts tab on your profile. The creator keeps the video, sound and credit.

What a repost on TikTok does

When you repost a video, three things happen:

  • It’s shown to your community. The video can appear in your followers’ For You feeds, marked as a repost with your profile photo and nickname.
  • It’s added to your profile. It goes into your Reposts tab, separate from your own videos.
  • It stays the creator’s video. Nothing is copied. Views and credit go to the original.

How to tell that a video is a repost

A video in the For You feed with a repost label and profile photo at the bottom
  1. Look at the bottom of the video for a repost label.
  2. Check the profile photo next to it. That's who reposted it.
  3. Tap the photo to see who reposted and to reply to their repost.

What does reposted mean on TikTok?

It means someone shared that video with their followers. When you see a video labelled as a repost with a person's profile photo, that person reposted it into feeds like yours.

What does repost mean?

To repost is to share someone else's post again with your own audience, with the original creator still credited. On TikTok it's a built-in button, not a re-upload.

What does a repost do?

It shows the video to your followers and community in their For You feed, labelled with your name, and adds it to your profile's Reposts tab. It doesn't create a copy or a new post.

Does reposting give the creator credit?

Yes. The video, username and sound stay the creator's, and people can tap through to the original.

Where can I see everything I've reposted?

On your profile, in the Reposts tab. TikTok doesn't show a count, but a repost checker can add them up for you.
